HSD 2016: highlights

BIG LAUNCH OF THE HSD 2016

On February 10, dozens of people, both adults and children, came together at Sherbrooke Elementary School for the kick-off of the HSD 2016 under the theme "Be a Superhero: Staying in School is Everyone's Business." The Projet PRÉE team was backed by the support of management, staff members and students of this Eastern Townships School Board school to help organize this regional event. Read the press review.

INSPIRATIONAL MEETINGS BETWEEN YOUTH AND ELECTED MEMBERS

 

Thanks to the collaboration of communications teams from Estrie's school boards, 6 meetings between elementary  and secondary students and elected municipal officials  were organized in 6 MRCs and municipalities in Estrie. In addition, on February 15, 5 students from the Cégep de Sherbrooke and the Université de Sherbrooke, accompanied by the Projet PRÉE team, were welcomed by Bernard Sévigny, Mayor of the City of Sherbrooke and his municipal councillors.

ESTRIE SUPERHEROES #JPS2016 

A video highlighting people who are committed to promoting school perseverance for Estrie's youth was broadcast during the launch and circulated on the Web. Vincent Vallières, Christian Vachon, Jean-Luc Dasté and Bernard Sévigny were among the superheroes who delivered touching testimonies. In social networks, people identified as superheroes of school perseverance were invited to name a model of school perseverance. Accompanied by the hastag #JPS2016, the goal of these publications was to create a wave of superheroes throughout the province of Quebec.  Watch the video

Visibility of HSD 2016

 » School perseverance flag. Distributed in limited quantities, the green and white perseverance flag was met with great enthusiasm. The Projet PRÉE received numerous photos showing the flag proudly displayed in cities, the MRC, educational institutions  and school boards.  

·         » Media impact. Thanks to a well-orchestrated media strategy, HSD 2016 received wide coverage by the local and regional media. The final tally: 5 TV reports, 13 radio interviews, and approximately 30 articles published in paper and over the web. Some 50 media spinoffs in total.

·        » Media placement. To maximize visibility for the HSD, media advertising was placed in 8 local papers, the Tribune, The Record, 3 radio stations, television, and on the Radio-Canada website.  

·        » School perseverance ribbons. Thanks to the collaboration of Fondation Desjardins and Uniprix, 10 000 ribbons were distributed and the general public was able to pick one up free of charge.

·         » #JPS2016. Perseverance Scolaire Estrie Facebook page, which has nearly 1300 followers, has been very active. More than 100 publications in all and lots of sharing!  

A productive week
 

·   » 255 activities identified in more than 200 organizations includings schools, community organizations,  MRCs and municipalities. Registration for these activities on the JPSEstrie.ca website helped to promote and catalogue these activities. 

·         » Meetings with the MRC. MRC mayoral council members met with the Projet PRÉE team. As leaders in their community, the elected officials were invited to get involved in educational success and to take part in the HSD.  

·         » The Phoenix  hockey game dedicated to school perseverance. This past February 13, at the Palais des sports Léopold-Drolet, 2340 fans took part in the event. 100 reserved seats for fans of hockey and perseverance. A Facebook contest. Several HSD announcements broadcast during the hockey game.  

·         » Breakfast conference for employers. Organized in collaboration with School-Work Balance Estrie, this conference focussed on welcoming, integrating and retaining employees, with the participation of 60 employers.

·         » ParentEstrie.com. Launch of a resource directory for all parents in Estrie; a real virtual library to help parents support their children throughout their schooling.

·        » The Deviens Jeune reporter Contest.  Among all the reporter ideas proposed, it was the concept of Guillaume St-Onge, from École la Montée that was chosen and which will be produced and broadcast by Radio-Canada Estrie. This student proposed doing a report on the possible careers available in the field of video games.
