MRC perseverance projects

 
The projects undertaken in the MRCs and the city of Sherbrooke aim to counter the problem of school dropout by responding to
specific needs of the different communities. Representatives of municipalities, the school environment, health and social services and community organizations from each MRC have endorsed the selection of projects that best meet the needs of their communities.

MEMPHRÉMAGOG MRC

PHELPS HELPS STANSTEAD

The Phelps helps Stanstead program is a community education initiative to reduce the dropout rate in the Stanstead area. The program offers tutoring services designed to support elementary and
high school students with personalized assistance related to homework and the review of concepts covered in class.
 
 
 

SEMER POUR LA RÉUSSITE


 

A family support project in the form of educational mother-child activities, such as painting workshops, gardening, storytelling and hiking. These activities aim to stimulate the children to get
involved, in addition to helping mothers to fit into their environment through networking and the development of parenting skills that are useful for the educational success of their child.
 
 
 

PAS À PAS VERS LA MATERNELLE

Pas à pas vers la maternelle is an activity program that caters to parents and their children aged 3 to 4, and not attending a daycare. Its main purpose is to support and assist parents in preparing their children for a successful start to school.
 

VAL-SAINT-FRANÇOIS MRC

LIRE ET FAIRE LIRE

 
 
This provincial program is taking shape in the Val-Saint-François by way of workshops focusing on the pleasure of reading, led by senior volunteers with groups of children. The “Lire et faire lire” initiative enables elementary school children to establish a significant relationship with an older  person.

 

IN-SCHOOL MENTORING

 
  
 
The in-school mentoring program of the Estrie Big Brothers and Big Sisters, located in the MRC of Val-Saint-François, allows for individualized support in the form of twinning an adult and a child.
The program includes recreational, sports and cultural activities where a trust relationship is established between the paired individuals, which will have a positive impact on academic,
psychosocial and emotional skills of the participants.

Carrefour jeunesse-emploi

This project provides individual support for high school students in a school suspension situation or with particular difficulties and their parents. It aims to encourage young people to reflect and to prepare themselves when facing problematic situations.
   

GRANDIR ENSEMBLE

 

This project aims to equip parents in order to enable them to intervene with their preschool children. The support given allows parents to acquire the necessary skills to support their children
in all areas of their academic and social development.

UN MAGAZINE À NOTRE IMAGE

Intro-travail et Carrefour
jeunesse-emploi du Granit

 

This project aims to mobilize young people age 5 to 20, through the creation of a magazine by and for young people. Among others, it is aimed at young people who are less motivated to read and write. This project of creating a local magazine named “Zig Zag” promotes the involvement of young people at all levels of education from elementary to post-secondary and it contributes to the
academic and personal development of targeted youth.

HAUT-SAINT- FRANÇOIS MRC

LIRE-READ

 

 

This project proposes to support 6 to 8 year olds and their parents, so that the latter are better able to help their children and get them to read more regularly for fun. Animation activities in different settings, aim to develop a taste for reading in the young persons and the parents’ sense of competence by helping the child with reading.

COATICOOK MRC

ON T’ACCOMPAGNE VERS UN FUTUR PROMETTEUR

  

This project aims to reach-out to youth in the MRC who have dropped out or who are at risk of doing so. It is based on sustained support for these youth to reenter school or continue their education.
Individualized monitoring is available to the youth identified.

PARENTS AS LEARNING SUPPORTERS

  

This project aims to offer families, having a child or children with significant learning and behaviour problems, a support program at the Eastern Townships Learning Centre, so as to facilitate the student’s integration.

 

THE LANGUAGE OF
RESPONS-ABLE PARENTING

 

  

The “Language of Respons-able Parenting” workshops aims to inspire, guide and equip parents. It teaches them to act differently in order to obtain different results. Simple, yet effective techniques
help to raise happy, responsible, autonomous, respectful children that equip them to manage daily challenges, while reducing tension and conflicts.

Maison Jeunes-Est

 

  

The Accès 5 program aims to increase the graduation rate of youth at risk of dropping out in the communities of St-Michel and des Jardins-Fleuris by way of an integrated approach that
includes 5 areas of action: individual support, academic support, access to extra-curricular activities, specific actions among affected youth, as well as financial and material assistance.
