Research chair in reading and writing

The Research chair on learning to read and write in young children was created thanks to a vital partnership to promote educational success in reading and writing in the Estrie educational milieu: the Université de Sherbrooke, schools boards in the Estrie region: the Commission scolaires des Sommets, des Hauts-Cantons, Eastern Townships, de la Région-de-Sherbrooke, the Table estrienne de concertation interordres en éducation (TECIÉ) and the Partners for Educational Success Estrie (Projet PRÉE).

The Research chair specifically addresses two priority areas of intervention from the TECIÉ action plan: the prevention and early screening of learning difficulties in reading and math, and help for students who have difficulties in reading and math.

The Research chair has the following goals:

• To document how children learn to read and write in preschool and elementary school.
• To document teaching practices for reading and writing in preschool and elementary school.
• To transfer knowledge and help preschool and elementary school teachers improve their strategies in teaching students to read.
