The Table estrienne de concertation interordres en éducation (TECIÉ) and Partners for Educational Success Estrie (Projet PRÉE) held a regional event on November 10 to present the work of the research chairs in education in the Estrie region.
More than 180 administrators from French and English elementary and high schools in the Estrie region, both public and private, mobilized around the theme of educational success and shared recognized effective practices – a first for Estrie! This initiative was a concrete reflection of the TECIÉ's commitment to documenting recognized effective practices and sharing them with school teams and other community stakeholders working with young people.
Estrie is one of the very few regions in Quebec where there are two research chairs in education. The Estrie school milieu works closely with its universities. Thus, the four school boards in the Estrie region and the Projet PRÉE set up a research chair on learning to read and write in young children, Professor Marie-France Morin, PhD. The Commission scolaire de la Région-de-Sherbrooke itself has a research chair on educational perseverance and success, Professor Laurier Fortin, PhD, with the goal of collecting information on the phenomenon of educational perseverance and better equipping itself to be able to take effective action. A regional desire to share best practices incited the TECIÉ and its Projet PRÉE to bring together these educational stakeholders.
The morning of the event, professors Morin and Fortin from the Université de Sherbrooke took turns presenting the results of their research from the past few years. In the afternoon, elementary school administrators worked with Ms. Morin and those from the high school level with Mr. Fortin. The school boards shared information on the various projects that have taken place within their institutions at both the elementary and high school levels.
Through this valuable sharing of recognized effective practices, elementary and high school administrators in the region are continuing their mobilizing efforts targeting the educational success of young people from Estrie by seeking additional information and equipping themselves with more tools to enhance the opportunities for success of their students.
